Malaga Airport, officially known as Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport, is a civil airport in Malaga, a famous tourist city in southern Spain, located 8 km southwest of Malaga city and 5 km north of Torremolinos. Located 130 km from Gibraltar, it is the southernmost airport on the European continent. The airport is operated by Aena and provides air services to the city of Malaga and its surrounding area. Since June 2011, it has been the fourth busiest airport in Spain, after Madrid-Barajas Airport, Barcelona Airport and Palma de Mallorca Airport.



Malaga Airport is one of the oldest airports in Spain, built in 1919, the same year officially opened on March 9, officially opened on September 1. Malaga Airport has an altitude of 16 m (52 ft), a runway length of 3,200 m (10,500 ft) and a width of 45 m (148 ft). The airport has three adjacent passenger terminals, Terminals 1, 2 and 3, with 164 check-in counters and 48 boarding gates. Terminal 1 opened in June 1972 for flights to non-Schengen areas; Terminal 2 was officially opened on November 30, 1991, known as the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Terminal, and was rebuilt and renovated in 2008, 2011 and 2013, with a total investment of about 2.56 million euros. Terminal 3 is Malaga Airport's newest passenger terminal, built in 2004, and officially opened on March 15, 2010, the total area of the terminal is 250,000 square meters, with 86 check-in counters, 20 gates and 12 baggage carousel, can handle 30 million passengers per year. It can accommodate 9,000 passengers per hour. In addition, Malaga Airport also has a general aviation terminal and a cargo terminal, the general terminal opened on January 29, 1968, mainly for private jets; Opened in 1996, the cargo terminal is located on the north side of the airport and covers an area of 5,700 square meters (61,000 square feet).



As the main gateway to Spain's Costa del Sol and the busiest international airport in Andalusia, Malaga Airport offers regular domestic, regional and international passenger and cargo services to more than 20 cities in Spain and more than 100 major cities in Europe, with direct flights to Africa, the Middle East and North America, most of which are operated by airlines from European Union countries. In particular, low-cost airlines and leisure travel airlines such as Ryanair, EasyJet and Vueling Air; In addition, Delta Air Lines and Transocean Airlines offer seasonal routes to North America during the summer months.



In 2014, Malaga Airport handled 13,748,976 passengers annually, with 108,261 aircraft taking off and landing and 2,498 tons of cargo handled annually.
